EASTERN EUROPE GIVES INDICATION OF RADIATOR MARKET FUTURE STRENGTH
11/07/13
The growth in use of steel panel radiators in Eastern Europe is an indicator of the products’ strong future in the UK market, according to manufacturers.
The Manufacturers’ Association of Radiators and Convectors (MARC) believes that the popularity of steel panel radiators in such countries as Turkey, Russia and the Ukraine supports its belief that this is still the number one modern option for warm homes.

EC SYMBOL RULING IS A VICTORY FOR RADIATOR AND HOUSING MARKETS
29/05/13
MARC – The Manufacturers’ Association of Radiators and Convectors believes the defeat of a European proposal to label radiators as unsuitable for use with heat pumps is a major victory for the industry.
The European Commission Delegated Regulation (of 18.2.2913) on energy labelling of space heaters had contained a proposal that a label featuring a radiator with a cross through it be placed on heat pump packaging.

THE WARM HEART OF THE ROOM
By John Colling, Chairman of MARC – The Manufacturers’ Association of Radiators and Convectors
Throughout our lives, we develop emotional attachments to many things; even inanimate objects. Whilst taking part in a meeting with colleagues from across Europe, I found myself discussing how this can happen with radiators.
You might not imagine that a person can see a radiator as anything other than a practical requirement in the home, but as the discussion unfolded it became increasingly understandable as to why this can happen.

TRUSTED SUPPLY CHAINS CAN KEEP PROVENANCE ISSUES OUT OF HEATING
18/03/13
Recent packaging issues in the food chain should act as a warning to the heating industry to be vigilant in protecting itself against products which are not of the quality they purport to be, warns the Manufacturers’ Association of Radiators and Convectors (MARC).
New requirements coming into force this summer mean all towel warmers will have to feature a CE mark, which indicates they have been tested to EN442. However, MARC believes that some elements of the supply chain may choose not to conform.

MARC CHAMPIONS RADIATOR SCRAPPAGE SCHEME
04/03/2013
The Manufacturers’ Association of Radiators and Convectors (MARC) believes a ‘radiator scrappage scheme’, similar to the successful programme to encourage boiler replacement, can help boost the UK’s green agenda.
MARC recently carried out research which showed 20% of homes in the UK still have radiators without convectors. This means that these homes can quickly and simply benefit from greater energy efficiency, by replacing these with more modern steel panel radiators.
Now, the organisation’s chairman has written to Ed Davey MP, Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change, proposing the scrappage scheme.

BEING GREEN THE TRIED AND TESTED WAY
21/02/2013
Green homes are often not those filled with new and expensive technology, according to the Manufacturers’ Association of Radiators and Convectors (MARC).
MARC is warning that expensive eco home systems may not prove as effective as a simple modern radiator system. The cost of installing a modern high-tech eco system is often in excess of £10,000 more expensive than fitting a conventional system.
John Colling, Chairman of MARC, says it is important for people to understand this issue as many are under the impression that high-tech home improvements will provide substantial ongoing savings. However, this is not always the case. The point has been highlighted in recent news reports, including one which claimed residents of new Yorkshire eco-homes had seen fuel bills twice those of their old, traditionally-heated properties.

NEW BOILER? YES, BUT IF YOU WANT FULL EFFICIENCY, ADD NEW RADIATORS
08/01/13
European advice on prioritising energy efficiency measures in the home could go even further, says the Manufacturers’ Association of Radiators and Convectors (MARC).
A report released by experts in Dresden*, on the effects of energy efficient modernisation measures for existing buildings, highlights boiler replacement and building insulation as the first processes to undertake.
However, MARC’s experts, which represent more than 90% of the UK radiator market, advise that boiler replacement alone is only a half measure and that the best results come with renewing the home’s radiators at the same time.

RADIATOR MARKET: MANUFACTURERS ANTICIPATE 200 MILLION MILESTONE BY 2023
17/12/12
The Manufacturers’ Association of Radiators and Convectors (MARC) is anticipating that the number of steel panel radiators installed in UK homes can reach 200 million by 2023.
According to BRG Consult, the market currently stands at approximately 190 million. However, MARC believes the 200 million installed radiator milestone can be hit by 2023 in the UK market, with approximately a million units going into new build homes every year.
John Colling, chairman of MARC, said: “Hitting that milestone in ten years is very feasible, even if the housing market continues at its current deflated rate.

RESEARCH SHOWS SCOPE FOR EFFICIENCY IMPROVEMENTS WITH RADIATORS
28/08/12
Research conducted by the Manufacturers’ Association of Radiators and Convectors (MARC) suggests the energy efficiency of millions of homes across the UK can be improved simply by replacing their existing radiators.
A survey conducted on behalf of MARC has indicated that 20% of home owners still have radiators in their homes which do not have convectors.
Radiator manufacturers began attaching convectors to their products in the 1980s, following innovations in the welding process developed by workers within the industry. The convectors allow greater heat emission from the radiators, and, therefore, the generators of the heat, such as boilers, are able to operate more efficiently.
