EIBI LETTER
October 31, 2011
Re: “Turning the tables on SBS, EIBI, October 2011”
Dear Sir,
In response to the article in October’s edition by Mike Lamb on sick building syndrome, I would like to put a few things straight on behalf of manufacturers of radiators and convectors.
The Manufacturers Association of Radiators and Convectors represents businesses which produce underfloor heating, as well as radiators and convectors, the three product areas covered in the October article, so I can I speak without favour to any of the three.
The article states that systems such as underfloor heating (UFH) work with lower water temperatures, boosting efficiency and saving on energy costs. This implies that radiators and convectors are not able to operate in this way.
In fact, a report launched by MARC earlier this year, and compiled by European experts, backed by leading academics, dispelled this myth and proved that radiators and convectors were equally, if not more efficient with lower water temperatures as competitor products.
Also, the practical benefits of radiators and convectors, particularly in the retro-fit market, also give radiators and convectors an edge over underfloor heating in many ways that are simply not highlighted in the article.
Yours faithfully,
John Colling
Chairman, MARC – Manufacturers Association of Radiators and Convectors
